Nashville, Tennesse

April 26th – April 28th

Nashville. One of the places we were really looking forward to visiting! Then, life happens. We were about an hour outside Nashville when we decided to pull off for an afternoon americano. Navigating around city streets is not the easiest thing to do with a 35 foot 5th wheel behind a large truck. I’m always thinking, strategizing. From where I am going to get gas to where I can make a turn. Anyhow, we found a Starbucks and nearby I saw a vacant funeral home lot. When I pulled into the parking lot, there were 2 ways to go. I initially was going to go left and then realized it was too narrow. So, I stayed straight. Somehow, I didn’t realize there was an overhang above me. I (we) ALWAYS are aware of overhangs above as we have heard the stories of RVers ripping things off the top of their trailers unintentionally. And then, it happened to us. Needless to say, our front AC unit would have it’s life ended at this funeral home parking lot. After the shock and gathering ourselves for a minute, we had a good laugh and moved on. I took the opportunity to talk to the boys about how to respond in stressful times. Lord knows they have seen me plenty of times make mistakes and not respond well. Fortunately this time, all was good and it created a good teaching moment. Meghan and I had a good laugh about it and will continue to do so in years to come.

We arrived at our campsite and the mobile RV repair man I called ahead of time was already there. We are so grateful he was free and able to help us. He ripped the AC unit off and got everything sealed up so rain would not flood our bedroom. It’s a good thing because we would end up having flash floods, tornado warnings and severe thunderstorms in the days ahead!

On top of all of this, Meghan went down with a horrible Migraine. We were flat out exhausted. Road life had caught up to us and we were ready for sunny San Diego. We were feeling like “ET phone home”. Keeping up with homeschool, work, exercise, tourism and moving from place to place had caught up to us. We dug deep and decided we were pushing too hard. We decided no more school for the boys for the remainder of our time out. They were pretty excited to say the least!

After our strange time in Nashville, it was time to continue west to Branson Missouri! We look forward to getting back to Nashville one day under different circumstances.

  1. Oh my goodness! You did handle that stressful situation well! I remember reading somewhere that in life we grow as people during the tough times. So true! In the whole scheme of things, all of you have such incredible memories from your travels to look back on and more to come!

  2. I can relate!! So very sorry… Hope you enjoy Branson… we loved it & had special times in a Nature Park about 25 miles out of Branson… ask anyone & they will probably know where it is located as I can’t remember the actual name. Don’t miss it!! We went most years to the beautiful resort near the nature park & then visited the park . It was a repeat visitation each year as we loved it that much.
Carry on…. Love goes with you!!
