St. Augustine, Florida

April 1st- April 8th

After an incredible time in Alabama, it was off to Florida! We were looking forward to Florida for several reasons. One in particular was the opportunity to see family. Meghan has 2 Aunts that live in Florida and we were going to be able to see both of them! This was going to be a particularly special visit as Meghan would be able to connect with family.

The drive to Florida was beautiful. The big, tall green trees along the way made for a peaceful drive. We arrived at our campsite and had a great setup. We stayed at Compass RV resort in St. Augustine.

Our first full day in town was quite busy. I was fortunate to sneak out and play a round of golf with a friend of mine who lives in the area. We played Southampton Golf Club and it was great to see him! Later in the afternoon, Meghan’s Aunt Maureen and cousin Joey came to our campsite and we prepared for tourism time. They were wonderful hosts! We went into the town of St. Augustine and saw so much history! Oldest Fort, oldest wooden schoolhouse, oldest city and a tour through a pirate museum. It was great! We finished our day out with some of the best pizza we’ve ever had. It was great to be with family and see the sites.

The next day was school and lounge around the campground day. These are some of my favorites. Just the downtime at recess with the boys playing basketball or hanging on the playground. Meghan and I both have had to stop and remind ourselves where we are at during certain moments of time! Meghan continues to amaze me with all of the homeschool coordinating. It’s a lot to keep up with!

Over the weekend, Meghan’s Aunt Adair and Uncle Greg arrived at our campsite from the Tampa area. They also have a trailer! They stayed for 5 nights and we had such a wonderful time with them. We sat around the fire at night and talked for long periods of time. It was such a blessing to be with them. Didn’t realize how much we had in common! Uncle Greg and I had a wonderful day out golfing at World Golf Hall of Fame while Meghan, the boys and Aunt Adair were able to visit.

Sunday was Easter, and, Aunt Maureen had invited all of us to her house for the day! We started the morning having a great breakfast with Greg and Adair. They invited us to their trailer hosting a wonderful breakfast and treated the boys to some Easter goodies! We would soon venture off to Maureen’s for the day. Prior to leaving, I was fortunate to have a call with a friend of mine whom I’ve been having some great talks about life and faith with recently. This was a particularly special conversation and day. He committed his life to Jesus on Easter Sunday! What a day. Off to Maureen’s house where we had a wonderful day visiting with some of Meghan’s family, including cousin Joey’s new wife Bethany. We loved the area of Saint Johns. The boys were excited to see some gators in the local ponds as well. Just a great Easter Sunday and I know how much Meghan enjoyed being with family.

The next few days consisted of school, work and tourism. We had a great day out at the Lighthouse in St. Augustine and the Alligator Farm! Maureen came through again with a wonderful lunch spot recommendation. We all feasted and had tasty fried shrimp.

St. Augustine was a special part of the trip. Being around family was the highlight. Maureen and Joey were such great tour guides and it was fun spending time with them. Our time with Greg and Adair was refreshing as we enjoyed our campsite together, and had late nights of conversation around the fire. Truly a special stop, and, we loved the state of Florida!
