Craters of the Moon

October 1, 2020

After an incredible time in Montana, it was time to head southwest to Sun Valley Idaho! As we were gearing up to leave, we had trouble getting our refrigerator to run on propane. We had already packed up the fridge with a weeks worth of food, so, we needed to keep things cool for our 6 hour drive! Needless to say, we ended up driving for 2 hours before pulling over in a small town to try and push the propane through. On the side of a random street, we ran the generator and miraculously the propane fired up and we were in business. While on the street, we had a serendipitous moment when a fellow RV-er approached us to see what we were up to. We told him we were heading to Sun Valley and he said we really needed to stop at Craters of the Moon on the way. Trusting his recommendation and not knowing what to expect, we saw the sign for Craters and decided to stop. We’re sure glad we did!

The black, rocky landscape from past volcanic eruptions & lava flow was fascinating. It really felt like we were on another planet! We drove the loop & pulled over several times to experience the interesting phenomenon. The pictures don’t really do the terrain justice, so, we would highly recommend this unique place to anyone traveling through Idaho!
