Bozeman, Montana Part 1

September 19th- October 1

While we had a wonderful time in the Grand Tetons, we were thrilled to be heading to Montana! For me, Brandon, this was a dream come true. Growing up I loved the movie “A River Runs Through It”. I’ve always wanted to go to Montana. We were also quite excited because awaiting us in Montana was Uncle David (my brother) and Aunt Amanda. They decided a few years ago to leave California and settle in Montana. We also were going to haver some other family (Mom, sister and brother in-law) in Bozeman at the same time. We were ready for some family time, and, a break from the trailer.

We left Grand Teton National Park on a rainy, Saturday morning. We exited West Yellowstone Entrance and headed up 191 North. The drive was beautiful. Arriving at my brother’s place was awesome. They’ve got 5 acres with chickens and all kinds of beautiful scenery all around them. The boys immediately were in heaven as open land, dogs, chickens, dirt hills and a tractor awaited them! We settled into the first night and headed for dinner at Ale Works in downtown Bozeman. Unreal! Bison Pot stickers and the best Nashville style fried chicken sandwich I’ve ever had. I cannot say enough about the food in Montana. Simply delicious.

The next day we headed for breakfast at the Western Cafe. Best breakfast ever. I do not mean to hype, but, the food is the real deal. Between dinner at Ale Works and breakfast at Western Cafe, we weren’t sure how there could be any good food left in town. There were some other great spots but these two would end up going down as Cass all-time favorites. After breakfast we went to the greatest store in the world, Murdoch’s. They had just about everything in there. The boys left the place outfitted in new cowboy boots, hats and belts. From that day on, it was rare to see them without their cowboy boots on. They also had Grammy with them and well, that meant they were going to head home with some extra souvenirs.

Time for some fishing! The boys were eager to hook up some Montana goods. Uncle David took us to a local pond to warm things up and the boys had a blast reeling in fish. A few days later, we went on another fishing adventure to Ferry Lake. It was amazing. Not another soul fishing this remote lake and we caught some beautiful cutthroat trout! It was a special day.

We also went to a museum in town called Museum of the Rockies. This place was cool. We learned about Dinosaurs, our Solar System and some Montana history while we were there. It was a great field trip.

The first week in Montana was great. The boys were having a blast feeding the chickens each day, running around the property and playing with Max and Penny. (The dogs) It was also nice seeing Meghan have a bit more room to navigate homeschool while we stayed in the house. She is doing an incredible job thus far! It’s a BIG job and I’m proud of all her hard work and effort. We quickly were settling into the Montana lifestyle. We love it here!
