May 6th- May 8th
When I think of New Mexico, I can’t help but think of Billy the Kid. I’ve always been interested in the Old West and the gunfighter days. Our visit to New Mexico, though, was primarily focused on reaching the White Sands National Park. Fort Sumner, where the Lincoln County War was fought, was out of the way quite a bit so we didn’t make it to see some of the gunfighter history!
Our drive from Oklahoma to New Mexico was LONG. We clocked nearly 10 hours with stops. Brutal. Everyone was a bit cranky and exhausted from the trip. But, all was well as we continue to enjoy our times together during this unique/special time for our family.
We woke up Friday morning and were ready to hit the National Park! We were told you could “sled” down the dunes in the park. So, we rented some sleds and took off for the day. It was really unique! Neither Meghan nor I had ever seen anything like it. The sand was so soft and we had a great time hiking the dunes and stopping for some rides. The boys wanted to go WAY OUT to some of the peaks. We love their enthusiasm to try new things and explore the “unknown”.
As we drove back to our campsite, Dylan shared with us about his dream from the night before. He told us “I think Jesus is coming back soon”. While this is not the first time he’s shared about his dreams & visions he has, we are always grateful to hear what God is speaking to the boys. He shared that prior to Christ returning, he saw a river coming from the throne of heaven and gold all around. We love how the boys continue to grow in their faith and relationship with the Lord.
We finished the day with ping pong, foosball and family movie night. We are off to Tucson where we started this adventure 2 months ago. Almost home!

Megan and Brandon-I continue to enjoy your travel journal and knew nothing of the beautiful sand dunes. Photos are terrific.
