A good friend of mine of 30 years is from Moore, OK. I can remember being a kid hearing stories about Oklahoma and always wanted to go. He spoke of a simple life with hard-working, kind and considerate people in the state. So after a long, beautiful drive out of Missouri, we arrived just outside Elk City at The KOA!
It was a different kind of beauty. We’ve seen 18 states over the past 8 months. Each with their own personality and beauty. Some similarities, but, each a bit different. Oklahoma was flat yet so peaceful looking out for miles and miles through green farmland.
I was informed that we needed to eat Oklahoma Ice Cream. So, we did! We had some great burgers and ice cream at Braum’s. Finished the night out with a spectacular lightning show way off in the distance. It lit up the sky in a majestic way.
My good buddy told me the sunrise in Oklahoma is a must see. Boy, he wasn’t kidding! I woke early to be sure to catch it. Absolutely breathtaking. I told Meghan I felt more peace in that moment than any other moment throughout the 50 days we had been on the road.
While we had just 1 night in Oklahoma, it was filled with a great dinner, fun times around the playground and a sunrise I will never forget. Off to New Mexico and the White Sands National Park!
