April 12th- April 19th
As we headed for North Carolina, I was pretty cooked. The RV life is amazing, beautiful, life-changing and exhausting all at once! I told Meghan I needed a week to “relax” a bit to recoup. I know she was in the same boat. The boys are machines. They know as soon as they finish school each day, it’s, game on. Whether that is fishing, playing with new friends at the playground or riding bikes. They….just….don’t….stop!!!
A friend of ours from San Diego spent her college days in Wrightsville Beach area so she gave us a “to do” list prior to our arrival. We were thankful! We arrived and immediately went to Dockside Restaurant for dinner. We had a table overlooking the water and watched all the boats go by. Wrightsville kind of reminds me of Newport Beach, Balboa Island a bit, but, with way cooler architecture! After our meal we went down to the beach for some ice cream and put our feet on the East Coast sand. A great first day arrival in a new area.
We stayed at the KOA outside Wilmington near Wrightsville Beach. The campground was incredible! The boys made new friends immediately, and, there was a pond for them to fish as well. Maverick has been the “lucky” fisherman on the trip as he continues to reel in the most fish. It is fun to see the boys competitive nature come out a bit with their “most fish”/”largest fish” contests. We settled in under beautiful North Carolina skies at night with our fire pit and were grateful for our location.
As mentioned, we were pretty exhausted! It was time for Meghan to get some R & R. She got squared away with a Spa Day and it was much needed! I found a nice cafe to work out of and it was my daily routine to grab an Americano and work after helping with homeschool.
The boys made some great friends at this campground! Their recess was filled with activities on the playground and hanging with their friends. One of the most difficult things for them (and us as we watch) is saying goodbye to new friends they meet along the way. We know we’ll see some of them again as we typically exchange info before leaving.
Each trip usually offers up some sort of life lesson opportunity as well. We are so incredibly grateful to get all day with the boys, exploring God’s creation, having meaningful conversations and seeing them grow.
One of the highlights of our visit to Wilmington area was going to the USS North Carolina! It was amazing. Time stood still as we went through every room possible on the ship. It was incredible seeing how brave soldiers lived and fought for our country. We are grateful.
We had a wonderful last day in Wrightsville Beach lounging on the beach and finishing the day with an Italian Feast. It was no doubt a restful week and we’ll always remember our time in North Carolina! Smoky Mountains, here we come!

I can so identify with you being exhausted in an RV… albeit I never traveled with three boys!! so maybe I don’t after all π It is really a lot of work too have an RV so I am feeling your pain… the pleasure always out ways the bad & broken things but it is still a lot of work.. You & Meghan are RV WARRIORS at this point… Enjoy the beauty of God.
